MATTON, Ernie (Joseph Harry Ernest) FRI CMR - An infinitely loving and generous spirit has departed. Ernie died of cancer on Friday, February 11, 2005. He left the world a better place for him having been here. Ernie's greatness of heart, love of life and boundless optimism was an inspiration and gift to all who knew him. He appreciated every day of his life and fought courageously to stay with us. Born in Cobalt on April 25, 1921 Ernie, along with his four brothers served their country in WWII; he and his wife of 58 years, Vivian, served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 until 1946. Ernie had many passions, music nourished his soul; his record collection is legendary. People enriched his spirit; he was happiest when he was involved with and helping people. Everyone he met was to him "the most incredible person". He had a true reverence for nature and was an avid bird watcher. Ernie participated in many community activities: a founding member of the Grimsby Festival of Art and involved in running it for 37 years, Past President of the Grimsby/Lincoln and District Association For Community Living, Co-Founder and Past President of the Grimsby Tennis Club, Past President of the Grimsby Badminton Club, Past President of the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, Paul Harris Fellow and Member of the Rotary Club, the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Ernie was the recipient of: The Government of Canada Certificate of Merit - 1988, The Governor General of Canada's Commemorative Medal - 1992, Citizen of the Year - 1980, Grimsby Civic Recognition Award - 1999 and a Sertoma Club "Service to Mankind" Award. He loved Grimsby and cherished the many wonderful people in it who were an important part of his life. Ernie rarely sat still. He undertook several business ventures over the years. He was an energetic athlete enjoying tennis, squash, badminton, curling and golf. Busy and engaged right up until his last months, Ernie never stopped learning and contributing. He maintained his sense of humour and was always worried about everyone else's well being and what he could do to help others. For his family "Grandpa" was the light and warmth. He made us all feel like the "smartest most beautiful most wonderful" people that ever lived! His boundless love was a precious gift that will forever enrich our lives. Ernie was the essence of what "success as a human being" means. We felt privileged to have him in our family and blessed to have him in our lives. We will love and miss him always. Ernie is survived by his wife Vivian, daughter Marilyn Flook, son-in-law Ron and grandchildren David, Jennifer, Jonathan and Cassandra. Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) (www.smithsfh.com) on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Interment Queen's Lawn Cemetery. "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather a skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proudly proclaiming...WOW, what a ride!"

Re : Matton en Ontario

Ernie était catholique selon l'endroit du service dans son avis.

J'essais de voir si ces Maton son reliés aux familles Matton-Mathon du Québec (ma grand-mère, une Matton de Sorel).
